Nova Scotia will host the 2012 Canadian Chefs’ Congress

Halifax based Chef Craig Flinn confirmed yesterday that the 2012 Canadian Chefs’ Congress will be hosted by Nova Scotia. Dates and location will be announced soon. The national committee will visit Nova Scotia in June to meet with their provincial counterparts to discuss the site. Stay tuned for more news.

2011 Canadian Chefs’ Congress Eager Beaver Culinary Scholarship

On April 14th the Canadian Chefs’ Congress announced the winners of the first two biennial Eager Beaver Culinary Scholarships. The scholarships were awarded during celebrations of CCC sponsor All-Clad’s 40th Anniversary. Amy Funk a graduate of the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts and Steven Hunt a graduate of George Brown College’s Chef School were awarded $4,000 each. The scholarship will give both winners the opportunity to travel from coast to coast to coast in Canada, spending one month working with and learning from a participating chef in each province and territory. Each recipient will be given a Flip video camera (donated by Earth Day Canada) and asked to post a video to youtube each month, which will be linked to the CCC website (canadianchefscongress.com).

 

 

The scholarship recipients will be working with: Northwest Territories: Pierre LePage, L’Héritage, Yellowknife; British Columbia: Sooke Harbour House,  Sooke; Alberta: Scott Pohorelic, Chef Instructor, SAIT Polytechnic, Calgary (former chef at River Café); Saskatchewan: Moe Mathieu, Chef Instructor at SIAS/ Cultivate Popup Restaurant, Saskatoon; Ontario: Michael Stadtländer, Eigensinn Farm/ Haisai Restaurant and Bakery, Singhampton; Québec: Jean Luc Boulay, Le Saint Amour, Québec City; New Brunswick: Christian Aerni, Rossmount Inn, St. Andrews; Nova Scotia: Craig Flinn, Chives Restaurant, Halifax; Prince Edward Island: Ilona Daniel, Stanhope Bay and Beach Resort, Stanhope; Newfoundland / Labrador: Jeremy Charles, Raymonds, St. John’s;.

The Canadian Chefs’ Congress will award the Eager Beaver Culinary Scholarship on an ongoing basis to deserving recipients from culinary programs all across the country. To continue its support for emerging chefs through this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, the Canadian Chefs’ Congress is welcoming contributions and sponsorships from individuals and businesses everywhere.
